Angola’s Oil Production Stays Above One Million BPD Threshold in February Despite Forecast Miss
Angola’s crude oil output remained marginally above the one million barrel threshold in February 2026, falling short of forecast but sustaining the country’s production above a psychologically and fiscally significant floor.
Total oil production for the month reached 28,156,157 barrels, translating to a daily average of 1,005,577 barrels of oil per day against a projected 1,029,936 barrels per day. Combined with liquefied petroleum gas output, total production across oil and LPG stood at 28,788,804 barrels of oil equivalent, averaging 1,028,172 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
Gas Output and Utilization
Associated gas production for February totaled 72,306 million cubic feet, averaging 2,582 million cubic feet per day. Of that volume, 1,222 million cubic feet per day were reinjected for reservoir pressure maintenance, 928 million cubic feet per day were directed to the Angola Liquefied Natural Gas plant, and 315 million cubic feet per day supported power generation at oil facilities.
The Angola Liquefied Natural Gas plant produced 4,212,515 barrels of oil equivalent against a forecast of 4,373,068 barrels of oil equivalent, a shortfall of 3.7% at a daily average of 150,447 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Output broke down as 128,652 barrels of oil equivalent per day of LNG, 9,814 of propane, 7,135 of butane, and 4,846 of condensates.
In the Cabinda Association, LPG production reached 212,188 barrels for the month, averaging 7,578 barrels per day across propane, butane, and onshore LPG streams.
Facility Efficiency and Liftings
Operational efficiency across production facilities came in at 87.44%, against a planned rate of 89.41%.
Total liftings for February reached 27,456,283 barrels, averaging 980,581 barrels per day, well above the forecasted 708,816 barrels per day. The Concessionaire accounted for 3,754,145 barrels, split between export and refinery delivery. Sonangol UNEP lifted 3,773,496 barrels entirely for export, and Sonangol E.P. lifted 1,454,923 barrels, also fully exported. Of total liftings, 27,019,962 barrels went to export markets and 436,321 barrels were delivered to the Luanda Refinery.
Drilling Activity
Twelve drilling units were active during February: one onshore rig, five shallow-water units, and six deepwater units operating across Blocks 1/14, 2, 2/05, 15, 15/06, 24, and 32. Work covered 23 wells in total, comprising intervention operations, development drilling and completion, one exploration well in progress, and four abandonment wells, with 16,604 metres drilled across all programmes.
Production by Block
Block 17 remained Angola’s single largest producing asset at 303,520 barrels per day, followed by Block 15 at 167,865 barrels per day and Block 32 at 113,374 barrels per day. Block 15/06 contributed 111,207 barrels per day and Block 0 added 103,242 barrels per day. Remaining production was distributed across Blocks 2, 3/05, 3/05A, 14, 14K, 17/06, 18, 31, and the onshore FS, FST, and Cabinda Sul associations.
