The 2025 Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) Conference, held in Luanda, was a defining moment for Angola’s energy industry - uniting policymakers, investors, and industry leaders to define the country’s path toward sustainable growth and energy transformation.

1. Seven Strategic Agreements Signed

Seven major oil and gas agreements were finalized during the conference, involving asset deals across Blocks 6/24, 33/24, and 31. Among the highlights was Shell’s re-entry into Angola’s upstream segment  a move symbolizing investor confidence and stronger cross-border partnerships for future growth.

2. ANPG’s $70 Billion Investment Framework

The National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) introduced a comprehensive five-year roadmap worth around $70 billion. The plan aims to expand exploration, boost refining output, and advance diversification through 2030, with a new licensing round expected by the end of 2025.

3. Upstream Expansion and Drilling Updates

Energy majors disclosed upcoming exploration and drilling programmes across multiple blocks. ExxonMobil confirmed fresh activity in Block 15, Azule Energy in Blocks 15/06 and 47, and Sonangol in Block 24. Angola also anticipates its first gas output from Block 1/14 before year-end.

4. Agogo Integrated West Hub Reaches First Oil

One of the biggest milestones of the year was the first oil from the Agogo Integrated West Hub in Block 15/06. The project, inaugurated by President João Lourenço, represents a major advancement in Angola’s offshore development strategy and production capacity.

5. Local Innovation and SME Impact

Entrepreneurship and indigenous capacity took center stage through the “Deals & Showcases” segment. Angolan startups displayed creative solutions for logistics, environmental monitoring, and digital systems a signal that local innovators are now key contributors to the country’s energy value chain.

Global operators including TotalEnergies, Eni (via Azule Energy), and Chevron reiterated long-term investments in Angola’s upstream portfolio. These continued financial commitments highlight trust in the nation’s stability, resource potential, and policy reforms.

7. Angola’s 50 Years of Independence Mark a Turning Point

As Angola commemorated five decades of independence, the conference served as a moment of reflection and redirection. Leaders emphasized value creation, job generation, and an integrated approach to oil, gas, and renewable energy marking a shift toward a balanced, future-ready economy.

8. Technical Sessions Drive Knowledge Exchange

Before the main summit, technical workshops hosted by operators like ExxonMobil and Corcel explored next-generation solutions for efficiency and safety. Drone inspections, digital mapping, and improved seismic tools demonstrated how innovation is redefining energy operations.

9. Empowering the Next Generation

Education and inclusion were a core focus. Four young women received scholarships to the National Petroleum Institute (INP) in Sumbe through the Albina Faria de Assis Pereira Africano initiative, reinforcing Angola’s dedication to youth development and gender equality in energy.

10. Excellence Celebrated at the AOG 2025 Awards

The closing ceremony recognized top performers across the energy spectrum. Azule Energy was named Game Changer of the Year, Sonangol won for Downstream Excellence, and Cabinda Refinery earned the Industry Advancement Award  honouring innovation and exceptional achievement.
